“Now that I am old and my hair is gray, do not abandon me, O God! Be with me while I proclaim Your power and might to all generations to come.”
Psalm 71:18 (Good News Bible Translation- GNT)
Exploring social and religious movements in the US and beyond.
Psalm Press grew out of a need to find a publishing company to launch ‘Stop! Hey, What’s That Sound?’ into print.
When contacting publishers, most were not interested in taking on an 800-page project with 27 contributors and 350+ images/art combined. Of those who showed interest, the placement of images near the corresponding text could not be guaranteed. At the same time, we learned, our goal of printing a large page-count hardback, a paperback and producing an eBook was not a combination most publishers offered.
A number of positives grew out of this obstacle. We were thrust into learning advanced publishing programs which enabled us to move forward. With this decision and the gradual gaining of skills, we had artistic oversight of each area of creative development and quality control.
This gave us additional time for photo restoration and computerized artistic paintings when no clear images of people or places were available. The same artistic freedom was utilized in choosing a ‘cover theme’ that reflected the era of the 1960s. Our in-house artist team took on this challenge.
We’re unsure what direction ‘Psalm Press’ might take in the days ahead, but we were given a vision for ’Stop! Hey, What’s That Sound? – The 1960’s Revolution and the Birth of The Jesus People. We sensed God asking us to do our part and preserve the historical record of a ‘God Visit’ we witnessed firsthand and make these accounts available to this and coming generations.
Our inspiration and vision to do so came from these words in the ‘Book of Psalms:’
Now that I am old and my hair is gray, do not abandon me, O God! Be with me while I proclaim Your power and might to all generations to come.
